Travel on a Budget: France

Planning your summer vacation can be stressful, especially if you are trying to stay within a budget.

Many people have the assumption that traveling to France is very expensive, but this doesn’t always have to be true. There are a variety of ways to make your trip to France more affordable.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when planning your trip:

Where to Go

First thoughts would tell you to go to Paris, but Paris can be pricey. Avignon is one great place to visit and there are many others in southern France that are beautiful and unique in their own ways.

Cheap Camping

Instead of staying in a four-star hotel and costing yourself a fortune, try camping in France! There are thousands of campsites all over France and many of them are nicer than some hotels.

There are other cheaper hotels in France as well. If you want to splurge just a little bit, the Logis de France is a great option for travelers, it’s similar to a chain in that it has about 300 small hotels in different parts of the country.

In smaller towns, lodging should be cheaper. If you still plan on visiting Paris, you can find a suburb that the metro reaches or the RER which are the suburban train lines. You could also stay in a close city like Chartres, which is not too long of a train ride away.

Transportation

Rental cars aren’t really needed because there’s tons of options for public transportation, even in smaller cities. Taking taxis can also be avoided to help you save money.
